Facts about the Founders of TCU:
- Addison Clark was born on December 11, 1842 in Titus (Morris) County, Texas. Randolph Clark born on August 15, 1844 in Powelltown (Waskom), Texas. In the spring of 1862 Addison Clark joined the Confederacy and two years later his younger brother, Randolph, joined him in the Sixteenth Texas Cavalry. After the Civil War, both brothers attended Carlton School in Kentucky Town and later Carlton College in Bonham.
- The brothers always knew that they wanted to pursue careers in education and in 1869 those dreams came true when they took over Male and Female Seminary of Fort Worth. In 1869, Addison Clark married Sallie McQuigg and they later had eight children. In 1870, Randolph Clark married Ellen Blanche Lee and they later had seven children.
- In 1889, when the costs of construction and high operating expenses became too much the Clark brothers gave the institution to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Texas. Addison Clark continued as president and was opposed when the institutions name was changed to Texas Christian University. He stepped down as president in 1899, but he continued teaching ancient languages until 1904, when he resigned from the faculty. He passed away on May 12, 1911.
- Randolph Clark served Add-Ran College as vice president and as a full-time faculty member for twenty years. He received his M.A. in literature from the college in 1896. Randolph became an ordained minister in the Disciples of Christ Church in 1873 and preached in local communities. Texas Christian University awarded him an LL.D degree in 1923. He passed away on November 22, 1935.

- The Clark Brothers both served in the Civil War. They established a children's preparatory school in Fort Worth called Male & Female Seminary of Fort Worth. This school was open from 1869 to 1874.
